Developments in Readout for Silicon Microstrip Sensors at a Linear Collider Detector

چکیده
The principle of resistive charge division for position measurement was laid out by Radeka in 1974 [1] but, to date, has not been explored for estimating the longitudinal coordinate for silicon microstrip detectors. To exploit resistive charge division, the impedance of the readout structure must be large relative to the dynamic impedance of the amplifier circuitry. Somewhat counter-intuitively, [1] suggests that, at this level and above, the longitudinal resolution is independent of resistance. Thus, we have explored the use of the implant (60 k/cm) as a readout structure for resistive charge division.

A central tracker based on silicon microstrip sensors has been envisaged for the e + e − linear collider experiments. A full simulation program based on GEANT4 has been developed to study performance of the tracker. We report some preliminary results obtained using this program. The use of silicon microstrip detectors as precise tracking devices in colliding-beam experiments has been well estab...
متن کاملPerformance of irradiated nþ-on-p silicon microstrip sensors
The silicon microstrip detector type with nþ readout fabricated on p bulk, nþ-on-p, is a candidate to be operational in radiation environments much severer than in LHC. We characterized nþ-on-p detectors which were irradiated up to 1:1 10 protons=cm 10 years ago. The noise level and charge collection were evaluated using the ATLAS SCT readout electronics system. Radiation-induced increase in th...

A reference tracking telescope consisting of three stations based on double-sided silicon microstrip detectors has been constructed and tested in a 2 GeV proton beam experiment at GSI. This proof-of-principle device designed for charged particle track measurement with high spatial resolution closely integrates silicon sensors with self-triggering front-end electronics. Each station features the...
متن کاملATLAS Inner Detector: Commissioning with Cosmics Data
The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has started taking data in Autumn 2008 with the inauguration of the LHC. The determination of vertex position and charged particle tracks is performed in the Inner Detector which consists of pixel and microstrip silicon sensors and of straw drift tubes with transition radiation detector capability. All three subdetectors were run in s...
